One of my Korean students wrote to me about the fire that demolished a Korean national treasure, the South Gate in Seoul. I only knew what she was talking about because of a souvenir the kids had given me on their last day.
I saw that gate when I lived in Korea. It was one of the country's greatest national heritage sites. The problem with historical buildings in the Far East is that they are mostly built of wood so they often get destoyed by fires.
I'm a proud mom and grandmom. I tend to be concerned about serious issues, but I am rather wacky at the same time. Perhaps the extremes balance each other.
